Leesville Needs Money?

So why is this a fundraiser and reunion, and not just a reunion?

We left Leesville roughly a quarter of a century ago. When we attended, the school was brand new. The paint had barely dried. The school possessed the best band instruments and production equipment, as everything had just been purchased. However, time has marched (ahem, no pun intended) on. Things are different now.

Many of the instruments the students are playing are the same instruments we used. They have well surpassed their useful life. The programs are also bigger. Now, the band program has a 9th Grade Band, Concert Band, and Symphonic Band which together total about 200 students. More students are using more instruments, some uncommon and expensive like bass clarinet. The population of Leesville has grown, but also has changed. The students are more diverse, coming from all different backgrounds both economically and culturally. Many families cannot afford an instrument, which puts pressure on the band’s club to source them. Finally, much of the production equipment used in the theater also needs replacing, specifically the wireless mics and cyclorama. Lighting, sound, and scenic elements are the basic building blocks which allow actors, singers, and dancers to showcase their talent. Without that infrastructure, theater and dance cannot fully flourish.

In the months to come, we’ll be spelling out the needs of the programs in more detail. Whether you give to Pride Productions or The Bands Club, please consider making a tax deductible donation to continue what we started for the next 25 years.
