Before I moved to Vegas in 2005, I had never been to a spa. I can’t even remember getting a massage or facial treatment growing up in Raleigh – I just don’t think it was a big part of the city culture. Now I have access to so many upscale spa options, it makes my head swim. From the big resorts on The Strip to our high-end local casino hotels, a spaaaaaaaaaah day is always in reach! If you’re looking to practice a little #selfcare while you’re here for the reunion, here’s a few reasons why you should look at spending the day at a spa.
The Atmosphere
Just about every great Las Vegas experience starts with the atmosphere, and the spas here are no exception. It typically begins once you enter the reception area. There’s almost always some soft music playing, the smell of eucalyptus or lavender, and probably a water feature to add to the tranquil ambiance. Places like Canyon Ranch at The Venetian or The Spa at ARIA have modern designs incorporating gorgeous natural elements all around. The Spa at Encore has an exotic palatial vibe that makes you feel like royalty as soon as you arrive. Although I haven’t personally been to either (yet), Qua Baths & Spa at Caesar’s Palace and Four Seasons Hotel Spa look to have that ideal retreat atmosphere. Stepping into a Las Vegas Spa makes you feel like you’re stepping into another world.
The Services
Every time I’ve taken friends to a spa with me, they always tell me how that was the best <insert treatment here> they’ve ever had. Resort spas uphold very high standards when it comes to what they offer guests, so only the best masseurs/masseuses and estheticians get the chance of working there. Some may have worked their way up from smaller resort spas or local establishments (check out Red Rock Spa, The Spa at Green Valley Ranch, or Spa Mio at M Resort if you want to spa like a local), while others move here specifically to work at one of these relaxation meccas. The massage services offered extend beyond the basics to deep-tissue, hot stone, or a oil-infused massages. Facials can vary from standard to hydrafacials, infused to resurfacing treatments. Most resort spas also offer full body treatments (body wraps, scrubs, etc.) and many have salons that can get you ready for a night out on the town after you’ve enjoyed a full day of relaxation. And don’t worry – there are specific facial treatments and barbershop services for the guys too. Couples and expectant mother’s usually have an option or two to enjoy as well. There is something for everyone!
The Amenities
Beyond your treatment(s), the spa amenities really make the total experience that much more special. From the cozy robes and slippers you’re given when you check in to the array of gourmet teas and snacks, you’ll definitely feel the pampering start before you even enter the main facilities. Most spas have whirlpools, steam rooms, and saunas; some even have a specific way to enjoy these rituals in order for maximum enjoyment and detoxification. Many have unique experiences such as salt rooms, ice rooms, immersive showers, wading pools, and meditation areas. Although most amenities are divided into women’s and men’s areas, there are some spas that have common co-ed areas that you can enjoy with a partner.
A spa day in Las Vegas is one-of-a-kind through and through. So go grab a cucumber water and treat yourself! 😉
